Hype

In our team we tend to move away from what the big trend-setting consultancies propose. We are fans of the developer-friendly (bottom-up) model rather than the corporate-friendly (top-down) one.

But since "you have to know your enemy", in this post we are going to talk about the current trends that consulting firms define in the field of process management.

And to do so, we must talk about the hype surrounding the term that has recently appeared: hyperautomation. According to "Gartner Top Strategic Technology Trends for 2021", hyperautomation is one of the top technology trends for 2021, defined as:

Business-driven hyperautomation is a disciplined approach that organizations use to rapidly identify, vet and automate as many business and IT processes as possible. Hyperautomation involves the orchestrated use of multiple technologies, tools or platforms. Examples of these include AI, machine learning, event-driven software architecture, robotic process automation (RPA), BPM/iBPMS, integration platform as a service (iPaaS), low-code or no-code tools, packaged software and other types of decision, process and task automation tools.

The technologies around this concept are becoming very relevant. According to the report "Predicts 2021: Accelerate Results Beyond RPA to Hyperautomation":

Lastly, there is continued investment and R&D on the part of sellers and equity investors. The hyperautomation portfolio of technologies (i.e., AI, ML iBPMS, low- or no-code, iPaaS, Document Ingestion, Analytics, Process Modeling and Mining, UX/CX) is projected to have well over $60 billion of private equity investment and over $20 billion of end-user spend. Many customers have already started and, rather than pandemic-triggered slowdown, Gartner sees acceleration in the use of hyperautomation technologies.

As you might guess, the simple fact that Gartner has coined a term for this concept means that there is a need in many organizations, which feel they have to jump on the bandwagon of this new trend.

And this very fact means that many solutions are coming to market that promise to address this hype.

In KuFlow we believe in the need to manage the processes of organizations, in the automation of tasks, in giving intelligence to systems to help organizations to manage their day to day.

However, we disagree with the approach followed by most of the current solutions.

In future posts we will talk about all these terms that are in vogue and we will go deeper into the concepts on which we base our approach.
